Doctors Reattach Boy's Leg Backwards and Upside Down...

...But it was done to save his life. After Dugan Smith was diagnosed with bone cancer and underwent surgery to remove a softball-sized tumor from his leg, he had chemotherapy to kill the cancer ... then surgeons got crafty. They performed a rare and remarkable procedure called Van Nes Rotationplasty whee the middle part of the leg is removed then they reattach the bottom part of the leg upside down and backwards. Now, Dugan’s calf muscle acts as a his thigh and his ankle becomes his knee. His foot fits into a prosthetic lower leg, which allows him to lead a normal life.
