Megachurch Pastor Found Dead of Apparent Drug Overdose in NYC Hotel Room

Drugs are the devil! Zachery Tims, the senior pastor of the 8,000-member New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka, Fla. was found dead Friday evening in his 37th-floor room at the W Hotel in Times Square. According to several reports citing sources familiar with investigation, the 42-year-old former drug attic turned preacher had a glassine envelope of white powder was found in his right pants pocket when he was discovered in his room. He was alone when he died. When hotel staff broke into his room, they found him lying face up in a walkway between the bedroom and the living room area. His body had no obvious signs of trauma. Relatives told investigators none of the pastor's jewelry was missing, and it does not appear he was robbed of any other belongings. An autopsy the former crackhead was inconclusive and the city's medical examiner says the powder will be tested to determine if it is cocaine, heroin or COCAINE -- or baking powder because, who knows, he could've been baking a cake. In his memoir, "It's Never Too Late," he writes that he was convicted of attempted murder at age 14 and spent two years in juvenile facilities. He overcame a drug addiction and became a pastor because "God had a greater plan," his website says. In 2009, Riva, his wife of 15 years, divorced his ass after he fessed up to a one-year affair with a stripper named Judy Nguyen, whom he met a strip club in Paris in Aug. 2006.
