Katt Williams is being sued by a promoter who claimed he paid the comedian a $737,500 advance for the shows in Houston (Texas), Mobile (Alabama), and Kansas City in late 2012 and Indiana, Florida and South Carolina in 2013, but he failed to appear for the stand-up shows. According to the lawsuit filed by 99 Ways Entertainment last Friday, Katt Williams apologized and promised to make good on the amount owed, but never repaid the money. "Subsequent to defendant Williams' failure to perform, he appeared on multiple radio shows and slandered the business of plaintiff as a promoter thereby, damaging plaintiff's professional relationships with venues and other performers," the promoter said in the suit. The promoter is seeking $1,729,900 in damages for breach of contract, deceit, unfair business practices, slander, expenses and lost profits.
Coincidentally, Katt Williams -- who we thought retired from comedy -- cut short a show in Atlanta on Saturday, citing an illness. (Something to do with a torn rotator cuff and he or may not have got bitten by a recluse spider 8 days ago.) Although he claimed to have recovered by Sunday, he cancelled that show. The show was rescheduled for March 1.
