Cash-Strapped NYers Are Begging to Be Jurors

It's a sign of the times. People in New York are actually calling the court house and volunteering to serve on a jury.

Well, the $40 a day stipend is what they're really after.

"People are calling up, saying, 'Look, I lost my job; now would be a good time for me to serve,' " Vincent Homenick, chief clerk of the jury division for Manhattan told the New York Post. "Not that $40 will pay the bills, but it's something....The jury pool is also more diverse than normal right now. We're getting a lot of Wall Streeters and other professionals. It's not your typical jury of civil servants."

So, there. If you've been deferring your civic duty and you're unemployed, you now know where you can make some easy money. Legally.
