Man Holds His Mother Hostage at Gunpoint Because She Refused to Be His Maid

Some boys never grow up. 29-year-old Robert Edward Tyrrell Jr. of Villa Rica, Ga. faces aggravated assault and false imprisonment following a June 30 incident in which he held his 51-year-old mother hostage after she refused to iron his clothes. True story.
"He wanted her to do some ironing, and when she said ‘no,' they got into an argument," [Sgt. Marc Griffith] said. "He told her ‘ironing is woman's work.'" Tyrell, who lives with his parents, then pulled out a gun and took his 51-year-old mother's keys and cellphones, Griffith said. The man refused to let the woman leave for at least six hours, investigators said. “Mama finally said, ‘I’m not ironing your clothes,' and he went cuckoo on her," Griffith said. The woman was later able to get out of the home and drive to a police station to report the incident, and deputies were dispatched to the home. Eventually, Tyrrell surrendered without incident, Griffith said.
