Woman Demands Husband's Sperm. But Here's the Thing -- He's Dead!

A New York City woman has petitioned a court asking for permission to extract sperm from her dead husband so she can have the family she says he always wanted.

According to authorities, Victoria Chege's husband, George Kamau, committed suicide by hanging on Monday in Norwalk, Conn.

She maintains in court papers that "time is of the essence" and "the sperm...must be harvested and frozen as soon as possible from the time of his death or it will be useless."

In her petition for the court to allow the extraction, she said George "expressed his desire to have children so that his legacy may continue," and "would have consented to the current petition."

Victoria filed court papers in Manhattan Supreme Court after the Sperm and Embryo Bank of New Jersey told her they couldn't perform the operation without court approval.

If her request is approved, the sperm would be implanted in the widow's friend, Etagheu Asefa, who she chose to be the child's surrogate mother.


Update: A judge allowed Victoria to harvest her dead husband's sperm.
