Man Shoots Son in the Chest After Stealing His Cell Phone


A 49-year-old man from Newark, New Jersey named Kenneth Tonic was arrested this morning on charges he shot his son during an argument over a cell phone last month. According to police, Kenneth's 27-year-old son was talking with another man in on March 16 when he saw his father behind the wheel of a Nissan Maxima. The man and his father got then got into argument because the son said Kenneth had recently stolen his cell phone. Kenneth then brandished a revolver fired at his son, striking him in the right side of his chest. He then fled the scene while his son collapsed on the sidewalk. The son was taken to a local hospital and treated. Kenneth was finally arrested today. He is with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He remains jailed on $75,000 bond.
